FIFA U17 World Cup 2024: North Korea Crowned Champions!

The final act of the U17 Women’s 2024 took place in the Dominican Republic. In a thrilling finish to this ultimate showdown of the U17 World Cup, North Korea clinched their fourth title by overcoming Spain.

The team triumphed in a dramatic final match, overcoming Spain 4-3 in a penalty shootout to claim the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This victory marks their third title and establishes them as the country with the most championships in this category.

The North Korean women showcased superior performance throughout the tournament, which was the key to their success.

They scored a remarkable 14 goals while conceding only 2, largely thanks to their star goalkeeper, I. Pak.

At the conclusion of the match, an awards ceremony was held, officiated by Dominican Vice President Raquel Peña, who closely followed the tournament.

Spain’s Celia Segura Rodríguez opened the scoring at the 61st minute, but the North Koreans quickly equalized with a goal from Chong-Jon just three minutes later at 64′. This marks the third encounter between North Korea and Spain for the top spots, with the Europeans having won twice in 2010 and 2018.

This historic clash drew a record attendance of 18,410 fans, the largest ever at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium for a football tournament.

FIFA President Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino expressed his gratitude to the Dominican Republic, President Luis Abinader, and the entire government for the “excellent organization” of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024, which was successfully held in the country from October 16 to November 3.
