Star Profile: PlayStation games inspired Babirye to Play Football

Born in 2005. Sarah Babirye, the twin who currently playing at the heart of Asubo Ladies FC, a side that features in the Finance Trust Women Elite League.

While PlayStation games are often criticized for promoting laziness among youth, Sarah Babiry’s story defies this notion. For her playing PlayStation games actually sparked a passion for football.

“I was inspired to play football at a young age”, Sarah recalls. “growing up, my family would often watch and play football games, and I was captivated by teamwork, energy, and strategy involved.”

Watching professional players like Lionel Messi further fueled her enthusiasm.

“I was amazed y the skill, precision, and heart that Messi brought to the game.” Sarah says. “it showed me the beauty of football and motivated me to pursue my own passion for the sport.”

Asubo ladies FC team captain, Sarah Babirye, is a talented attacking midfielder with a keen eye for spotting scoring opportunities. Her passion for football was ignited through informal matches with friends in her neighborhood. “the thrill off playing on the field drove me to continually improve and stay committed,” she recalls.

Hailing from a close –knit family of six, Babiry’s upbringing emphasized the value of education and hard work. Her parents, entrepreneurs themselves, instilled in her a strong work ethic.

EDUCATION JOURNEY:

The twin started her elementary school in 2008 at Sekamuli Primary School in Luweero District where she sat her PLE in 2016 before joining St Noa Girls School- Zzana in 2017 where she spent six years until 2021. At this school, she then developed much love in science and currently, she is pursuing a degree in Agriculture at Makerere University.

FOOTBALL JOURNEY

Babirye’ s football journey began at the age of 10, watching her elder brothers play for their school team. When the coach invited her to join, she was initially nervous but soon fell deeply in love with the game. What started as a casual activity with friends blossomed into a passion.

Babirye credits Coach Adonyo Moses with playing a significant role in her football development, instilling essential skills in her early days. Her two-year stint at Dynamic Football Club also greatly contributed to her growth as a player.
